"Teacher = Physician" Passes on Knowledge (Health Class)

At Shonan Fujisawa Junior and Senior High School, the weekly "Health" class for 5th-year students (11th grade) is taught by physicians from the Keio University Health Center. This is one of the highlight classes at Shonan Fujisawa Junior and Senior High School, where "teachers = physicians" who have professionally studied medical sciences speak realistically and essentially based on their experiences as doctors.

The content of the year-long course follows a "100-year life starting from a fertilized egg," where 17-year-old students reflect on their lives so far and imagine themselves up to the age of 100 while considering "health" at each life stage. In particular, when potential future "illnesses" are discussed realistically by the "physicians = teachers," or when delicate topics regarding "sexuality" are discussed with high professional expertise by the "physicians = teachers," it ignites the students' motivation to learn about health. Many students realize that the class content is a reality that is surprisingly close to them, and they listen to the lectures and work on assignments very enthusiastically.

The "teachers = physicians" in charge aim to foster the "ability to think for oneself and prevent" health disorders and lifestyle-related diseases that may occur now or in the future. Furthermore, they are conscious of realizing "health education, relationship education, and life/economic education" centered on "Health" as a subject, and they strive to make the classes both what they want to teach as doctors and what the students want to learn. It is no exaggeration to say that this is a luxurious class that could only be realized because it is one of Keio University's affiliated schools, which is unrelated to so-called university entrance exam coaching, and specifically because it is Shonan Fujisawa Junior and Senior High School, which requires students to study all subjects equally.
