What comes to mind when you hear the word "Africa"? For many, Africa may be a region that feels distant both geographically and psychologically. You might think of it as a region struggling with poverty, ethnic conflict, "terrorism," and refugee issues. However, these images represent only one facet of Africa.

While taking Africa's diversity into account, this seminar analyzes various issues in African countries using approaches from political science and international politics. Specifically, we conduct situational analysis and discussions regarding changes in political regimes, development aid, conflict and "terrorism," peacebuilding, refugee issues, and international crime. We occasionally invite domestic and international experts as guest speakers and hold workshops to practically consider solutions to problems such as poverty and conflict. Through this learning, we examine measures for international cooperation and solutions to the challenges facing African countries from diverse perspectives.
